FOX45: Pikesville optometrist to pay $143k in Medicaid fraud settlement - Baltimore Sun

When I first moved to the town where I am still living, I spoke with a doctor about buying his practice for sale. Thought about it for a few days. Then...headline in local paper..."Doctor convicted of medicaid fraud". It was him.

Actually second time for him but the second time he either had a big fine and/or prison time as well. I didn't buy the practice. Apparently he was billing for patient visits or VT visits even when patients didn't show up.

I think he died of a heart attack not too much long after that.

FOX45: Pikesville optometrist to pay $143k in Medicaid fraud settlement

A Pikesville optometrist and vision care center will pay $143,336 to resolve allegations that it made false health care claims for services not provided, officials said.

Aqua Vision Care, LLC, located in the 1000 block of Reisterstown Road, is alleged to have billed Medicaid monthly — sometimes several times a month — for eye exams for the same patients.

Medicaid covers no more than one optometric exam per year for patients 21 or younger and one exam every two years for recipients 21 and older, with certain limitations waived on a case-by-case basis.

The vision care center paid $71,668 in restitution for services not provided as well as the same amount as a civil penalty.

In announcing the settlement, Attorney General Anthony Brown thanked the Medicaid Fraud and Vulnerable Victims Unit for their work on the case.
