Proposed Changes to Regulations Will Put Eye Health and Safety of BC Public at ... -

Danger, danger, danger

At this time it is really surprising that only a few readers have seen this thread. Maybe the title should have been, “A Wake up Call,” or “Warning: Paul Revere said the British are coming.”

Within this news item is the potential for a very dangerous change in laws. We’ve just had monumental changes to our healthcare laws, which in the interest of political expedience, didn’t include all the necessary changes to make things financial sound. I include in this increased taxes and who pays, limits on services, and limits on compensation. In this article on proposed changes in British Columbia are two provisions which are a danger to optometry there and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were being considered here.

1. Opticians to be authorized to “sight test,” using automatic equipment.

2. Unrestricted internet sales of spectacles and contact lenses with no requirement of a prescription or verification of the product.

I hope the AOA is on top of this.

Frank,

Many of us here support the AOA on most issues. That doesn't mean we have to drink their kool aide on BC.

Very important words, yet many here won't support the AOA. (OK, I asked for it. Start kickin').

It's very hard to stem the tide on what is perceived as a consumer rights issue.

What role would the AOA have, or should have in Canadian politics?
