Dr. Fontana (aka optometry’s “Uncle Frank”), in his 69th year attending SECO, talks about being a pioneer the field of contact lenses, and what the future might hold for ECPs!
Registered ECP members can reminisce about the ‘old days’ & ask Uncle Frank questions in this thread.
In this highly practical ODwire.org webinar, Jeffrey Cooper MS, OD, FAAO, FCOVD, Professor Emeritus, SUNY College of Optometry, catches us up on the latest research on atropine & myopia control.
We review the literature and have a Q&A discussing how you can integrate this latest data into your own myopia control practice.
In this brief ODwire.org TV Interview, Mark Andre, FAAO, Associate Professor of Optometry at Pacific University College of Optometry tells us all about the NEW CooperVision MyDay Toric, and using the new lens to build your 1-day practice.
We touch on –
Statistics on toric fits, dropouts and where the market is moving
I spoke with Denise Crown from VisionWeb @ VEE to catch the latest with them (listen to the 5 minute interview above.)
Uprise has now split out their platform into two separate packages at different pricepoints — “Essentials” and “Pro“.
So for a new practitioner who doesn’t necessarily need the kitchen sink, but does want an EHR, Essentials is an inexpensive way to go. You can then seamlessly “upgrade” to Pro when ready.
*** They are extending the show special: You can get Uprise Essentials for FREE for your first doc if you sign up for VisionWeb’s Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) package (which does claim submissions, etc.)
In the wake of the latest Facebook scandal (and the #deletefacebook movement), I’d like to provide some explanations of how we keep your data and privacy safe on ODwire.org.
Privacy has been a big deal to us since the site was founded 15+ years ago, it is part of our DNA, and it a major reason the site has been successful. (At the same time, it limits our growth, as “registering” isn’t just as simple as clicking a button! C’est la vie.)
Unfortunately the rest of the world is only now catching on to just how bad the situation is on many other sites.
Read more to see how we address these issues on ODwire.org, and why it is important.

At SECO 2018, we sat down with gold medal Olympic gymnast, Dancing with the Stars winner, and NY Times best-selling author Laurie Hernandez to discuss contact lenses, perseverance, and her possible return to the sport!
Laurie was fit with CLs at an early age, and the improved vision they provided helped her training as she forged a path to the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
She’s subsequently become a spokesperson for Alcon, which is how we ended up getting this interview (yes, I was as shocked as you when this happened !)
Her positivity and poise are remarkable. My biggest takeaway from our brief talk was the importance of remaining optimistic in the face of long odds and (very) painful injuries.
Thanks again to Laurie and to Alcon for making it happen!

Visual Fields in the OCT Era: Dr. Graham Lakkis (55861-GL)
Although significant developments have occurred in the structural analysis of glaucomatous optic neuropathy using OCT scans, research into functional visual field testing continues with the development of new techniques and refinements of existing strategies to maximise efficiency of testing and accuracy of progression analysis.
Practical guidance will be given that can be applied during encounters with glaucoma patients.
