The NORA annual conference is a premier event for eye care and other health care professionals who provide rehabilitative services to individuals who have suffered a traumatic brain injury.

In line with our continued commitment toward advancing professional knowledge and understanding of Neuro- Optometric Rehabilitative care and encouraging strong working relationships among professionals, the NORA 2020 online conference brings together key opinion leaders from optometry and other specialties.

You can earn up to 17 COPE-approved CE credits from leading experts with all new presentations, without leaving home.

In response to member feedback, this year, we are very excited to announce the addition of a course designed to provide allied therapy professionals with a foundational understanding of the role of neuro-optometric rehabilitation for vision disorders associated with concussion, stroke and other neurological disorders.

We are also offering two courses designed for staff members that may be of interest to optometrists who are looking to add a neuro component to their office, as well.

Visual snow syndrome is a fascinating phenomenon of unknown neurological etiology. Although many clinicians have never even heard of it or consider it rare, it is more common than previously thought. In new Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA) blog Dr. M.H. Esther Han discusses visual snow syndrome that can follow optic nerve damage or traumatic brain injury. https://noravisionrehab.org/blog

Dr. Han will be presenting at the NORA online conference. For more info, visit www.nora2020.com

Optometrists May Play Key Role In Diagnosing Neurodegenerative Diseases Earlier

Cheryl Lethern, OD, who practices in London, Ontario, Canada wrote in the optometry blog for Healio (8/7) that the rates of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are increasing. Dr. Lethern added that these diseases are often diagnosed late, but optometrists may play a vital role in diagnosing these diseases earlier using new technologies. Dr. Lethern concluded, “Taken together, all of these research developments provide hope that earlier diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases – and, therefore, earlier treatment interventions – is possible.”

The conference's content is definitely unique -- one of the reasons we decided to hop on board and help NORA produce the event is because it is unlike anything you'll get elsewhere. (and even the vendors are different and highly specialized -- take a look)!

During my optometric professorships, I continuously made this point to my students.

NEW PRESENTATION ADDED!

Self-Care and Burnout Prevention in the COVID-19 ERA

The uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic is enduring. Patients, as well as health care professionals and staff members, are still navigating the normal overwhelm and stress inherent in a pandemic. How do you know if you or your employees are too overwhelmed or stressed? What can you do to help yourself and support your colleagues, team, patients, family, and friends?

While it can feel counterintuitive in such an uncertain and demanding time, health care professionals need to make time for their own coping and self-care. Psychological research has consistently shown that self-care not only benefits people’s physical and mental health but enables them to carry out their jobs more effectively.

At the NORA2020 Conference, we are pleased to offer a presentation by Mana K. Ali, Ph.D., a member of the American Psychological Association, Division 22, Rehabilitation Psychology. Dr. Ali's presentation will highlight symptoms of burnout, elicit resilience, and provide strategies for self-care.

In the interim, the American Psychological Association offers tips to help healthcare workers stay calm and effective on the job. You can access these resources here.
