One of the squeak toys we got for our dogs looked like a skunk with a stripe down it's back. The dogs had bitten the stuffing and squeaker out of it so it was just a "skin" sitting out by the forest. Once a skunk came by right next to the "skunk skin". I wasn't sure if it was coincidence or the skunk actually thought it was another skunk.

Our dog Roxie is smarter than me. Once I was laying in the hammock and she came up with a Frisbee in her mouth, wanting to play Frisbee fetch. I took it and threw it, still laying in the hammock, and when she came back with it she put it on the ground just far enough that I had to reach for it. She still had her front foot on it and when I reached for it she slid the Frisbee back away from me so I had to get out of the hammock. Darn smart. Also sometimes she would run out the back door barking like there was a squirrel in the back yard and then when the other dogs went running out to catch the non-existent squirrel she'd sneak back in and grab their toys.

Our sweet girl blew out her cranial cruciate ligament and underwent TPLO surgery to repair it last week. She is recovering very well so far, although my husband and I are very worried about keeping her subdued during the recovery period. (We have sedatives and will need to use them.) The other stressful thought is that she has 50% chance of blowing out the other one. :-(

Oh, I hope your furry baby feels better soon. Our beagle tore both his ACL's on his hind legs. After PT and months of no jumping, running etc, NSAID'S, it's finally healed.

Oh no! I'm sorry your beagle went through that. No bueno. Izzie started out that way, with the original injury occurring in December right before Christmas. We were cleared by the surgeon in early March to resume normal activity but he warned us that her tibial angle leaves her predisposed to a full tear. She tore it completely while playing with our friends' dogs on April 11th. Surgery was a three days later. Sutures were removed today, and she is cleared to resume PT again tomorrow. We can't let her run or jump for 6 weeks though. It's going to be a very LONG 6 weeks, but I'm just grateful that she's going to be okay. We don't have kids so she is our baby. :)

Here is our new addition to the family. He is another rescue that my wife's boss had but then couldn't handle puppy stage. He is part Lab and part Beagle. His name was Zeus but my wife is trying to change it to Monkey. Big brother Milo is in the back. The dogs get along well but the cats are adjusting slower. They need to learn not to run.

Hubby brought home a 5-mo blue nose pitbull last month. We're going to foster her and find her a home, he says.
Well, I found her a home but he was NOT happy with me. Guess he likes her following him around, since I don't do that. And vet says she is the sweetest dog she's ever seen so we have to keep her. Sigh.
Just had her spayed, very $$$ for a large puppy! (But I didn't b*&% like OUR pts do).
She is a doll, very gentle and smart, loves to bite the water coming out of hose.
 
Don't have any pets to care for though sometimes I wish. Just can't bring myself to be a care giver at this time. Do get to enjoy the wildlife around me. Two maturing bucks in the lower field today. Past two years a covey of quail have entertained me. They run funny! Half a dozen cottontails and jacks zig zag ahead of me when I leave for work. Been seeing a red fox and coyote recently. Doves and various other bird species flitter around. Also the high desert variety of lizards abound.

Three big buck in my back yard, tons of bunnies, not as many foxes as prior years(hence the bunnies), occasional turkeys over the past 3 years all while a few homes are going up on 28 acre parcel behind us which will take some away from the back yard view.
 
My daughter the animal-lover has brought many home over the years. We've bottle-fed orphaned kittens, squirrels, bunnies and even a woodchuck. Currently I have 2 energetic labs who take me for long walks. She currently has my granddog, 2 grandcats and a grandferret.

My cat Bella had cancer and had to be put to sleep right after Thanksgiving. Jeez that was tough to do.

Anyway we adopted two new kittens from the pound and the kids and I have had a blast with them. Even my wife who is not an animal person loves them. I introduce Beans and Arya:

Squirt is a squirrel that confronts me directly when I am stoop-sitting in my low-traffic-density neighborhood. When he has assured himself that I will not touch him, he jumps sideways to ascend a yew tree in order to eat maple seeds on the roof.

All of this amuses my guests who stoop-sit with me.

Our cat Buddy resembles Arya, but has a grey mustache. My wife has grown to dote on the cats.
